Water where it shouldn't be? Start here.

Pick what's happening. These steps limit the damage while we get to you.

Smell gas? Leave the house and call 911 from outside.

Burst or leaking pipe

  1. Shut the main valve. It is usually on the basement wall facing the street, near the water meter.
  2. Open a faucet at the lowest point in the house to drain the line.
  3. Stay away from standing water near outlets or the electrical panel.
  4. Call us with the address and where the water is coming from.

Frozen pipe

  1. Open the tap the line feeds so melting ice has somewhere to go.
  2. Warm the pipe with a hair dryer, starting near the faucet. Never use an open flame.
  3. Open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls.
  4. If you see a crack or water, shut the main valve and call us.

No hot water

  1. Look for water around the base of the tank.
  2. If it is leaking, close the cold-water valve above the tank and turn off its gas valve or breaker.
  3. If it is dry, check the breaker on an electric unit or the pilot light on a gas unit.
  4. Call us with the make, model and age printed on the label.

Sewer backup

  1. Stop running water, flushing and using the washer.
  2. Keep people and pets out of the area. Sewage water is a health risk.
  3. Skip chemical drain cleaners, which can injure anyone working on the line.
  4. Call us and tell us which drains are backing up.

Common questions

How much will it cost?

It depends on the job. We look at the problem first and give you a written price before any work starts.

Do you charge more for nights and weekends?

We tell you about any after-hours charge on the phone before we send anyone.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. New York licenses plumbers by city and town, with no statewide license. Ask us for license and insurance details for your job.

Do you work with landlords and tenants?

Yes. We work on doubles and small rentals often, and we can set up access with your tenants directly.
